Maku Free Zone; A Golden Opportunity to Develop Iran’s Exports and Tourism

Maku Free Zone is developing as one of the most important economic and logistic areas of Iran by holding unique characteristics. Due to its strategic location and large development projects, including logistics village and railway and airport infrastructure, this region will quickly become one of the export and tourism hubs of the country and is on the path of sustainable growth.

Maku, as the largest free zone of Iran, plays a key role in the economic and commercial development of the country. Being located on the borders of Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan and as one of the international trade highways, this region has been able to establish its position as a logistics, industrial and tourism hub.

Major projects in Maku Free Zone, including the logistics village and transportation infrastructure, indicate the region’s bright economic prospects.

Logistics Village; An Evolution in Maku’s Commercial Infrastructure

One of the big and strategic projects in Maku Free Zone is the construction of the logistics village, which, with an area of ​​1,820 hectares, is considered as a main feature for the development of this zone. This village will become a center for goods transit in Iran with modern facilities such as warehouses, land port, railway and road connections. The existence of such an infrastructure can strengthen Maku’s position at the national and international level and contribute significantly to the economic growth.

Maku Logistics Village, beside Tabriz-Bazargan freeway, will strengthen the rail and road transport connections in the region and will play an important role in increasing exports and imports. In addition to having a direct impact on the improvement of business infrastructure, this project can also help create sustainable employment and increase the country’s foreign currency earnings.

Tourism Development; An Opportunity to Attract International Tourists

Maku Free Zone with high capacities in the field of tourism, especially historical and natural tourism, is considered one of the great potentials in Iran’s tourism industry. The presence of world heritage sites such as Qareh Kelisa and Zorzor Church, natural attractions such as Cheshmeh Sorayya and mineral water, along with holding sports such as paragliding and fishing, has made this area an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

In addition, new tourism projects, including establishing four and five-star hotels and the development of ecotourism residences, will help to increase the capacity to receive tourists. The proximity of this area to the borders of Türkiye and being on the way of the entry and exit of passengers from Bazargan border also plays an important role in attracting foreign tourists.

Investment Opportunities; From Industry to Agriculture

Maku Free Zone is not only active in commercial and logistics fields, but also has many investment attractions in industrial and agricultural sections. With the investment of 180 thousand billion IRR in this region, various industries such as mining, clothing, cold storage and logistics are growing. Also, establishment of modern agricultural gardens with products such as pistachios and walnuts, as the largest modern gardens in the Middle East, has turned this region into a hub in the field of agriculture.

In addition to meeting domestic needs, investing in these sectors can also strengthen the export capacities of the region and increase Maku’s share in international trade. In this regard, paying attention to the development of knowledge-based towns and the use of new technologies can help accelerate the economic development process of the region.
