Maku’s Name Shines at The ECO International Meeting of Foreign Ministers

The capacities of Maku Free Zone were introduced on the sidelines of the 28th International ECO Ministerial Meeting in the holy city of Mashhad by establishing an exhibition pavilion at the meeting site.

The 28th meeting of foreign ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member countries concluded in Mashhad with the presence of foreign ministers, deputy ministers, ambassadors, senior experts from these countries, ECO officials, and 20 foreign delegations to outline the organization’s program for the coming decade.

This event was an opportunity to introduce Maku Free Zone and the role of this strategic zone in the international and transit interactions of the countries of the region. Hossein Garousi, CEO of the Maku Free Zone Organization, with a presence at this event, successfully introduced the capacities of this zone to the Foreign Ministers of the member countries.

In addition to bordering Turkey and Nakhchivan, Maku Free Trade and Industrial Zone is adjacent to Armenia and the Caucasus region, and is the land corridor of the North-South (a competitor to the Suez Canal on land) and the connection point between Asia and Europe. Given the strategic importance of the Caucasus for Iran, most of the commercial and political exchanges between Iran and Europe are carried out through this point.

The short distance of Maku Free Zone from the ports of Mersin on the Mediterranean Sea and Trabzon on the Black Sea is a significant advantage in accessing European markets by land and sea.
